Vharta.ai is an enterprise data and AI workflow execution platform built on a governance-first architecture. We enable organisations to run data and AI workflows on a single, multi-tenant platform, with Policy-as-Code (OPA), per-tenant cost metering, comprehensive observability, and support for SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR compliance built in. Our customers include operations, engineering, security, and FinOps teams in financial services, manufacturing, retail, telecommunications, and healthcare. They need to govern AI and data workflows without rewriting existing automations or becoming locked into a single vendor. We are an early-stage, fast-moving team building the platform we have always wanted. This is a high-ownership engineering role in which you will design and build core parts of the platform, establish technical standards, and directly influence how we scale.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to build and scale the core of the Vharta platform: its multi-tenant control plane, workflow execution engine, and governance and metering layers. You will own backend features end to end, including high-performance services in Go, scalable APIs and integrations, and a robust PostgreSQL data layer. You will also help establish how we build in the AI era, using AI-assisted development tools and disciplined best practices to deliver quickly without compromising quality, security, or maintainability. Because we provide a technical platform to technical buyers in regulated industries, engineering quality is a core product capability, not an afterthought.

What You’ll Do

Build the Platform (Backend — Go)

-Design, build, and scale multi-tenant backend services and APIs in Go, ensuring strong isolation, concurrency, and performance under load.

-Develop the workflow execution and orchestration layer that runs data and AI workflows across tenants.

-Integrate Policy-as-Code (OPA) enforcement, per-tenant cost metering, quotas, and audit trails into core services.

-Build and maintain integrations with AI and LLM gateways, external engines, and cloud services.

Build the APIs & Integrations

-Design clean, well-documented APIs that support our console, SDKs, and customer integrations.

-Build reliable asynchronous and event-driven processing for workflow execution, metering, and auditing.

-Collaborate with product, frontend, and platform engineers to translate complex platform capabilities into reliable backend services.

Own the Data Layer (PostgreSQL)

-Design schemas and write efficient, well-tested SQL and migrations for metering, reporting, auditing, and tenant data.

-Optimise complex queries and database performance for high-volume, multi-tenant workloads.

-Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across the persistence layer.

Set the Engineering Bar (Vibe Coding & Best Practices)

-Use AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot, to accelerate delivery while applying rigorous practices that ensure AI-generated code is safe for production.

-Champion responsible AI-assisted development across the team through clear specifications and prompts, small verifiable increments, mandatory human review, strong test coverage, security scanning, and a commitment never to merge code you do not understand.

-Establish guardrails, patterns, and internal guidelines that enable the team to move quickly with AI without accumulating hidden risk or technical debt.

-Contribute to code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical standards.

Operate & Scale

-Deliver production-grade, observable, and secure code, and take ownership of it through deployment and ongoing operation.

-Work with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure to support deployment, scaling, and reliability.

-Contribute to engineering practices aligned with SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR requirements, and promote secure-by-default design.

What We’re Looking For

Required (Must-Have)

-Four to eight years of professional software engineering experience building and delivering production backend systems.

-Strong hands-on experience with Go, including building scalable backend services, APIs, concurrent systems, and microservices in production.

-Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, complex queries, query optimisation, and performance tuning.

-Experience with asynchronous and event-driven systems, including queues, streams, and background workers.

-Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted development and its best practices. You actively use AI coding tools responsibly by providing clear context, reviewing and testing generated code, keeping people in the loop, and maintaining security and code quality.

-Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, system design, APIs, and testing.

-An ownership mindset, with the ability to take a problem from ambiguity to a delivered feature with minimal oversight.

-Excellent written and verbal English, with clear technical communication skills.

-Based in Bengaluru or able to work on-site in Bengaluru.

Strongly Preferred

-Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and a major cloud platform such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

-Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, Temporal, or OpenMetadata; Langflow; or agentic AI frameworks.

-Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture, tenant isolation, and per-tenant metering or billing.

-Exposure to Policy-as-Code and OPA, as well as observability stacks such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.

-Experience integrating LLMs and AI capabilities, including LLM gateways, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, or agent orchestration.

-Experience in regulated industries or in building systems aligned with compliance standards such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or GDPR.

-Early-stage or start-up experience, particularly where you helped establish standards from the ground up.

What Success Looks Like

-First 30 days: become familiar with the codebase and architecture, and deliver meaningful improvements to our Go services.

-Within 60–90 days: take end-to-end ownership of a core backend component spanning services, APIs, and the data layer, while helping shape our AI-assisted development practices and standards.

-Within six months: become a go-to engineer for one or more platform areas, mentor colleagues in responsible AI-assisted development, and materially improve delivery speed and quality.
